MOEBIUS Trips to Maryland Film Festival

The Annual San Francisco International Film Festival has invited a pair of recent Korean independent works for its upcoming 17th edition, which will take place from April 24th to May 8th. NOH Young-seok’s Intruders and HONG Sangsoo’s Our Sunhi will screen in California.

NOH’s sophomore film Intruders, following his festival favorite Daytime Drinking (2008), is a taut home invasion thriller set in the wintry climes of mountainous Gangwon province that premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival. The film also picked up the Grand Prix at the Hawaii International Film Festival last Fall.

HONG’s latest feature Our Sunhi debuted at the Locarno International Film Festival, where it was awarded the Silver Leopard for Best Director. The film, which stars JUNG Yu-Mi, LEE Sun-kyun, JUNG Jae-young and KIM Sang-joong, has been invited to over 20 events to date, including the Toronto, Busan and Vancouver International Film Festivals, and was a strong performer in limited release domestically, accruing almost 70,000 viewers.

Meanwhile the Maryland Film Festival, taking place in Northeast America, has invited Moebius, the controversial new film from Korean indie maverick KIM Ki-duk. KIM’s film, starring CHO Jae-hyun and SEO Young-joo, debuted out of competition at the Venice International Film Festival. The film, which had to be submitted to the Korean Media Ratings Board three times before securing release, has screened at 15 other events to date. The Maryland Film Festival will take place from May 7th to 11th.
