JUNG Seong-wook, born in 1976, majored in theater and film at Kyunsung University and was set for a career in film directing, but his fortuitous meeting with director of photography KIM Wu-hyeong sparked his interest in cinematography. As luck would have it, it was just around the same time that he was serving as assistant director on KIM Baek-jun’s short <My Short Trip in Kwang-ju> (2001), and upon realizing there was no one assigned to the camera, JUNG decided to take up the task. He then received the opportunity to work as camera assistant on <Resurrection of the Little Match Girl> (2002), which marked his first credit in a feature film. After that, he left for France to do a Masters’ degree at Université Lumière Lyon 2, in the hope of settling there as a cinematographer, but this proved too much a challenge and he eventually moved back to Korea. It wasn’t all for nothing, though, as his stay in France led him to meet another filmmaker from Busan who studied in France, Director JEON Soo-il, who, with <Time Between Dog and Wolf> (2005), offered him his first cinematography work on a feature film.
