SWEET 20 Marks 5th Version of CJ Comedy Title

Sweet 20, the Indonesian remake of CJ Entertainment’s smash family comedy hit Miss Granny (2014) has followed in the footsteps of previous localized remakes of the property by becoming a box office phenomenon in its country. Recording 880,000 viewers (USD 3 million) after its June 25th release, the film entered the top five releases of the first half of 2017 in Indonesia, among a total of around 60 releases.

CJ has previously waded into the local Indonesian production with Jogko Anwar’s festival film A Copy of My Mind (2015) and the medical comedy Cado Cado.

The original Miss Granny, directed by HWANG Dong-hyuk and starring SHIM Eun-kyoung and NA Moon-hee, was released during the Lunar New Year holiday of 2014 and welcomed a stellar 8.66 million viewers (USD 56.25 million), making it one of the top selling hits of that year. CJ Entertainment went on to adapt the film for several territories as part of its One Source Multi Territory strategy.

The first redo was 20 Once Again (2014) in China, which scored USD 57.4 million. That was followed by the Vietnamese version, also called Sweet 20 (2015) which became the most successful local film of all time. Japanese (Sing My Life) and Thai (Suddenly 20) versions followed earlier this year. Several more versions are in the works, including for Turkey and two for the United States, one in English and another in Spanish.
