Distributor Picks Up A SPECIAL LADY

At the beginning of this year’s Cannes Film Market, Korean distributor M-Line Distribution revealed international sales for its current mystery thriller INSANE. Directed by LEE Cheol-ha (Love Me Not, 2006) and featuring KANG Ye-won (The Huntresses, 2014) and LEE Sang-yun (Santa Barbara, 2014), the film was picked up by outfits in Japan (King Records), Taiwan (Long Shong) and China (YL, which also nabbed the Chinese remake rights).

INSANE follows a woman who is kidnapped, brought to a psychiatric institute and has experiments conducted on her. Sometime later a TV producer receives an anonymous tip with her story. The thriller has proved a hit with Korean audiences, attracting 1.06 million viewers (USD 7.55 million) to theaters.

M-Line is also launching sales on a number of new pickups. Among them are a pair from KIDARI ENT. A Special Lady is a gangster action thriller with KIM Hye-soo in the lead role and LEE Sun-kyun co-starring which marks the debut of LEE An-gyu. The noir focuses on a former prostitute and her sworn enemy, a former hitman. The Colonial Era thriller The Tooth and the Nail from Epitaph (2007) director JUNG Sik stars KO Soo, KIM Joo-hyuk and PARK Sung-woong. The story is derived from a book by Bill S. Ballinger in which a magician investigates his lover’s mysterious death.

The company is also presenting their hit comfort women drama Spirits' Homecoming, the upcoming ice hockey drama Run-off, a sequel to Take Off (2009) featuring Su Ae and OH Dal-su, and No Way to Go, featuring K-pop boy band SHINee member Min-ho.
