Parade of Stars Descend on BiFan Opening

19th Edition Kicks Off with a Bang

Under clear skies and blazing sunlight, the 19th edition of the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival (BiFan) kicked off in fine form last night, with a parade of stars gracing the red carpet and delighting throngs of fans. Following the opening and awards ceremony, curtain-raiser Moonwalkers played to a packed crowd after reportedly selling out in just eight seconds.

Kicking off in the evening, the opening ceremony was hosted by actors SHIN Hyun-joon and LEE Da-hee. High profile guests were in attendance, including Hong Kong star Simon YAM, who is the subject of a retrospective at the festival this year, acting legend AHN Sung-ki, Busan International Film Festival co-directors Lee Yong-Kwan and KANG Soo-yeon, actor SONG Il-kook, who features in Bucheon Choice competition title Tattooist, and Moonwalkers director Antoine Bardou-Jacquet.

Following opening speeches, awards were handed out, which included Producers' Choice Awards, chosen by BiFan and the Korean Film Producers' Guild, for stars LEE Min-ho and MOON Chae-won, Fantasia Awards, decided by Bucheon city residents for JUNG Woo and KIM Go-eun, and the IT Star Award for character actor OH Dal-su.

BiFan, which is screening a record 235 films of varied colors this year, will carry on until July 26th, with a closing and awards ceremony to be held on the 24th.
