HEART, the third feature film by rising indie darling
JEONG Ga-young, is being re-released on New Year’s Eve, following its initial release at the end of February this year, just as the pandemic started to trample on the exhibition sector. JEONG debuted to acclaim domestically with
Bitch on the Beach (2016), before finding fans at international festivals with
Hit the Night (2018), which debuted at the
Busan International Film Festival.
HEART also debuted at Busan. JEONG is currently on set for her first ever commercial film, the romantic comedy
Woo-ri, Ja-young (working title) with
JUN Jong-seo and
SON Sukku.
As with her other films (which are often compared to the work of
HONG Sang-soo), JEONG herself stars in
HEART as Ga-young, a filmmaker who visits her artist friend Seong-bum in his studio, to confide in him about her relationship with a married man. The married Seong-bum admonishes her for her behavior until he is reminded that they once slept together on the night of the birth of his child. Later, Ga-young meets with a prospective actor for her new film, but she grows uncomfortable at all his piercing questions about the infidelity riddled throughout what is clearly an autobiographical script about her relationships with married men.
