KIM Hyun-min has been a movie fan since her younger age and was considering a film director career when she was in high school, but she believed she didn’t have what it takes to work in that area, and instead settled for film journalism. After years working for magazines Screen and Movieweek, she is now a freelance journalist who contributes articles to Vogue, Bazaar and IZE, and often participates in Q&A sessions, radio broadcasts and podcasts. KIM received her first film credit when she participated in the script of YEON Je-gwang’s <Alien> (2019). Seeing a work she had taken part in being screened at the Cannes Film Festival gave her the motivation to pursue her dream, and so in 2020 she completed her first film as a director, the short <Tidal> (2020), which debuted at the Seoul Independent Film Festival.
