CHOI Se-yeon graduated from the Korea National University of Arts (K’Arts) with a specialization in costume design. CHOI started out by taking part in the first production in 2003 of <Laundry>, an offbeat musical written by fellow K’Arts student CHU Min-ju, which tackles the questions regarding immigrant workers and underprivileged people. In order to give the show a commercial run, CHOI co-founded a musical production company CH Soobak, and since the official opening night in 2005, more than 3,000 performances have been given, not only in Korea but also in Japan and China, winning several awards in the process. However, CHOI Se-yeon found herself making her name in another medium – film. She started as part of the dressers for <Hi, Dharma 2 -Showdown In Seoul> (2004) and was promoted to costume designer on the indie film <The Aggressives> (2005) after her photobook made a strong impression on the director JEONG Jae-eun, thereby foregoing the usual traineeship under an experimented costume designer that has come to be expected in the industry. She then added to her credits titles like the chorus drama film <Sad Movie> (2005), the musical <Go Go 70s> (2008), IM Sang-soo’s remake of <The Housemaid> (2010), CHOI Dong-hoon’s capper film <The Thieves> (2012), and the thriller <Believer> (2018). She established in 2013 her own costume design studio Git Entertainment. She was recommended to BONG Joon-ho by Art Director RYU Seong-hee, who had been really impressed by her work on <Go Go 70s>. With four collaborations with BONG as to date, ie. <Mother> (2009), <Haemoo> (2014), <Okja> (2017) – co-designer along with Catherine GEORGE – and <PARASITE> (2019), CHOI has become a core member of BONG’s posse. CHOI also had an influence on the cast of <PARASITE>, as it is through her that BONG first met LEE Jeong-eun, the leading actress in <Laundry> since 2008 and who would give a scene-stealing performance as the housemaid in <PARASITE>.Less
