Seasoned performer Jo Jaeyun was born in 1974 and pursued theater studies at the Seoul Institute of the Arts. He debuted on the stage in 1997 and continued to appear in plays until his feature film debut which came with the popular romantic comedy <Please Teach Me English> in 2003, in which he had a supporting role. He quickly became busy in the mainstream industry, appearing in numerous varied productions in small parts over the coming years. These included the romcom <Au Revoir, UFO> (2004), Im Sangsoo’s political thriller <The President’s Last Bang> (2005) and the fantasy romance <The Restless> in 2006. Remaining active on the big screen, in 2007 Jo also became a consistent presence on TV, amassing numerous credits, including <The Chaser> (2012), for which he received a nomination from the SBS Drama Awards, and <Gu Family Book> (2013). During this time, some of his biggest film credits included the hitman thriller <The Man From Nowhere> (2010), Na Hongjin’s chase thriller <The Yellow Sea> (2010) and prison melodrama <Miracle in Cell No. 7> (2012). He graduated to commercial titles with the investigation thriller <S.I.U.> in 2011 and later <Dad for Rent> (2013) and <Casa Amor: Exclusive for Ladies> in 2014. Later that year, he also featured in the smash hit political thriller <Inside Men> (2015) and the next year saw him appear as a co-star in the romantic drama <Mood of the Day> (2015) and the thriller <INSANE> (2015). He then starred in the period action <The Age of Blood> (2015) and was given a support part in the crime action <The Prison> (2016). After an appearance in the sensational hit series <Descendants of the Sun> (2016), his portrayal of President Hwang in the surprise crime action hit <THE OUTLAWS> (2017) brought him wider recognition. In 2018, he was cast in the satirical drama series <Sky Castle>, which proved to be a cultural phenomenon with record-shattering ratings.
