Prior to wielding the megaphone, LEE Il-hyung worked as an assistant director on various commercial films. His first such credit was on YOON Jong-bin’s second film, the host drama <Beastie Boys> (2008). Three years later, he participated as an assistant director in the big-budget war epic MY WAY, from director KANG Je-kyu. Another three years later, he worked with director YOON again for the period action epic <KUNDO : Age of the Rampant>, featuring HA Jung-woo and GANG Dong-won. In 2016, he finally got his own opportunity to direct when he teamed up with the production company SANAI Pictures to make the thriller <A Violent Prosecutor>. Working with actor GANG once again, as well as superstar HWANG Jung-min, the film followed a prosecutor who is framed and sent to jail but then engages the help of a low-level hoodlum to uncover the conspiracy behind his incarceration. Released during the Lunar New Year, the film was an enormous hit for distributor Showbox, replicating the success of other recent titles with political corruption themes such as <Veteran> and <Inside Men>.
