KIM Dae-woo made a transition from the most accomplished screenplay writer of Chungmooro with a number of hit scripts to a dependable director with box office success. He started his filmmaking career by winning the 1991 Korean Film Council Screenplay Contest, and wrote the scripts of a diverse range of films, including <The Girl for Love and The One for Marriage>(1993), <Rainbow Trout>(1999), < The Foul King>(2000), <An Affair>(1999), and <Untold Scandal>(2003). His choice for his directorial debut was <Forbidden Quest>(2006), which proved successful with its modern twist of historical context. KIM Dae-woo’s interpretation of historical stories and contexts in an unconventional perspective more surprising than modern subjects shone in his recent film, <The Servant>(2010), which is another twist of the most classic of Korean classic stories, Chun Hyang.
