GOH Young-jae is a hit maker and the center gravity in Koreas independent film circle. He is responsible for cementing the notion of public access of the media by contributing to citizen filmmaking and independent filmmaking as a director of [Mediact], a non-profit organization. As the executive director of the [Association of Korean Independent Film and Video], he then worked on improving the production and distribution environment of indie films and made indie films a legitimate alternative to mainstream commercial films. As a producer, he used his keen eyes in picking out and developing films with various topics and approaches into box office successes. Independent documentaries he produced, such as Our School and Old Partner, won wide acclaim from the public as well as critics. His ability to select good movies for production was proved again with the enormous success of Breathless. By developing an alternative way of film distribution, he premiered Fly Penguin and The Bridge at Nogunri in the mainstream market, and expanded Koreas movie market that had been concentrated in the Seoul metro area to the rest of the country. In 2010, he launched an independent film download website, Indie Plug. He is also active in importing independent foreign movies to Korea, such as Buried.
