Young ‘JIN Chae-sun’(BAE Su-zy), a girl wishing to learn the art of pansori appears before ‘SHIN Jae-hyo’(RYU Seung-ryong), the head of Joseon’s first school of pansori, ‘Dongli Academy.’
Having lost both her parents as a child, Chae-sun had been nurturing the dream of becoming a singer ever since she heard the beautiful voice of SHIN Jae-hyo but SHIN refuses Chae-sun because women are forbidden from the art of pansori. Chae-sun’s desire is unquenchable, and she joins the academy dressed as a man, but SHIN Jae-hyo is unwilling to accept her as his student.
However, the news of ‘Nakseongyeon,’ a pansori contest hosted by the King Father, Prince Daewon, reaches SHIN Jae-hyo, and he decides to accept Chae-sun, who is the only person who can sing the ‘Song of Chunhyang’ as it was meant to be performed.
If Chae-sun’s identity as a woman is revealed, the penalty is death for everyone involved. But Shin Jae-hyo begins to teach Chae-sun everything he knows.
