Revered Director Will Preside Over Muhr AsiaAfrica Awards

The 9th Dubai International Film Festival (DIFF), which is set to run from December 9th to 16th, has invited acclaimed director LEE Chang-dong to head the jury for their Muhr AsiaAfrica Features section. LEE joins other jurors such as UK director Michael APTED (Muhr Arab Documentary), Brazilian filmmaker Bruno BARRETO (Muhr Arab Feature) and Indian actress Freida PINTO (Muhr Shorts). 80 films are set to vie for the total of $575,000 up for grabs across the various sections.

Korean cinema’s presence will be bolstered by the screening of box office hit The Thieves, directed by CHOI Dong-hoon, and critical darling Pieta, the Golden Lion-winning work from director KIM Ki-duk, as well as the participation of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC), which will set up a pavilion at the festival’s market, and Korean film distribution companies such as CJ Entertainment, Showbox/Mediaplex Inc., Lotte Entertainment and M-Line Distribution.
