PARASITE Distributor to Introduce BONG Joon-ho Classic to US Audiences

Following in the wake of the massive global success of PARASITE (2019), winner of the fourth Academy Award, including Best Picture, and the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival, director BONG Joon-ho’s 2003 classic Memories of Murder is gearing up for release in North America in a remastered version.

NEON, which handled the North American release of PARASITE (2019), will also be presenting Memories of Murder (2003) to American audiences. NEON has partnered with Fathom Events and the film will get a special limited theatrical engagement open October 19 and 20.

The screening will include exclusive content and also feature a post-screening conversation between Director BONG and Baby Driver director Edgar Wright.

BONG’s second film, Memories of Murder (2003) is based on the real life case of a serial killer who stalked the countryside in Korea in 1980s. Long one of Korea’s most horrifying unsolved incidents, the story reached an unexpected conclusion last year when the killer was finally identified.

The film stars SONG Kang-ho and KIM Sang-kyung as detectives desperately trying to solve the case, while PARK Hae-il plays one of their main suspects. In addition to being an enormous critical success, the film was also a watershed commercial moment for Korean auteur cinema, becoming the second most successful film of 2003.

Memories of Murder (2003) will also be added to the Criterion Collection in the near future, joining PARASITE (2019) which will be published by the revered Blu-ray label next month.
