Crying Fist, the latest film by director RYOO Seung-wan (Arahan, No Blood No Tears) is to receive an official release in China on August 11. The film was first unveiled at a press screening in Beijing on August2. There it provoked a debate between critics about its potential for success among Chinese audiences, with some arguing it was too violent and male-centered, while others argued that its anti-authoritarian stance and moving ending would appeal to young audiences. In May, the film was awarded the FIPRESCI Prize for the Director's Fortnight section of the Cannes Film Festival. Starring CHOI Min-shik and RYOO Seung-wan, the film tells the story of two men whose lives are falling apart, who take up boxing as a means of redeeming themselves.
