Korean thriller film “A Girl With Closed Eyes,” which will have a market launch at the Toronto International Film Festival, before world premiering in October’s Busan festival, has secured a world sales representative in Finecut.
The company is also representing “By the Stream,” the latest project by Korean auteur Hong Sangsoo, which premiered in Locarno earlier this month, where it won the best performance award, and will next play in the Centrepiece section in Toronto. Finecut’s Korean horror-thriller “Noise” will premiere at the Sitges fantasy festival and has a market screening at Toronto Industry Select.
“A Girl With Closed Eyes” follows a murder suspect and a detective with a shared past. The two women are reunited through the murder of a bestselling author and uncover hidden truths as the investigation deepens.
The film, currently in advanced post-production, marks the feature debut of director Chun Sunyoung, whose short film “Good Night” appeared at Cannes Critics’ Week. Finecut will show footage in Toronto. Busan announced that “Girl” has been selected for its Korean Cinema Today section, dedicated to critically-worthy commercial movies.
Kim Minha, who is in acclaimed Apple TV+ series “Pachinko,” stars as the suspect. The detective is portrayed by Moon Choi, known for her performances in “Deliver Us From Evil,” “Okja” and “Anarchist From Colony.”
The film is presented by Solaire Partners, a venture capital firm that has backed numerous box office hits including “Parasite,” “Extreme Job,” “12.12: The Day” and “Next Sohee.”
Apart from these, Finecut will introduce another upcoming film, “Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning,” an animated adaptation of a best-selling Korean novel that follows a doctor-turned priest who must protect a naïve yet powerful child from his corrupt master. It had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival.
