Cinematographer Han Juyeol of Devil in the Lake Won the Best Cinematographer at ECA & NYCA

Devil in the Lake, a K-horror movie released on October 19, won the Best Cinematographer of the Year (Feature Film) at the European Cinematography Awards (ECA) and the New York Cinematography Awards (NYCA), respectively.

Devil in the Lake depicts a struggle Boyoung (Park Hana) suffers. She enters a mansion by a haunted lake where people die off mysteriously, disguising as a caregiver to steal jewelry hidden in the house. Her nightmare begins when she secretly brings her child to the house, breaking the taboo, 'Do not bring anyone, especially children.’

At the time of its release, the breathtaking struggle in the mansion was evaluated as adding fear through the overwhelming mise-en-scene. While filming in the mansion, the Director of Photography Han Juyeol used distorted visuals using wide-angle lenses to maximize the atmosphere in which the characters are possessed by supernatural energy, completing the visual beauty that doubles the fear. In addition, he also showed dreamy feelings by using various special lenses made only for Devil in the Lake, expressing the emotions of the drama through the video images.

Devil in the Lake drew attention with its release in North America at the same time and is currently in the process of worldwide release, including in Southeast Asia.
