Highly Anticipated Investigation Comedy Starring Korean Wave Actors
Directed by E.oni, who previously made MISSING (2016), The Accidental Detective 2: In Action will be released in three countries in Southeast Asia. This investigation comedy has been set for release in Malaysia on July 12th, in Vietnam on July 13th, and in Taiwan on July 27th.
The Accidental Detective 2: In Action is a sequel to THE ACCIDENTAL DETECTIVE (2015), which follows KANG Dae-man (KWON Sang-woo), a comic book store owner who is a fan of Sherlock Holmes, and legendary detective NOH Tae-soo (SUNG Dong-il) as they solve various cases. In the sequel, KANG and NOH open a private detective agency and recruit
Yeochi (LEE Kwang-soo), a former specialist in the cyber-crime investigation. Together, they are going to investigate new cases.
In Korea, it has topped the weekend box office for two weeks straight, attracting 2.3 million moviegoers (according to the Korean Box Office Information System operated by the Korean Film Council, as of June 27th). Expectations for the overseas releases of the film are high since it features Korean wave stars like KWON Sang-woo and LEE Kwang-soo. Besides Malaysia, Vietnam, and Taiwan, the movie is also confirmed to release in the United States on June 22nd, Australia and New Zealand on July 19th and Japan in March next year.
“Before the Korean release, The Accidental Detective 2: In Action had already been sold to 14 countries, including the United States, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Vietnam, Australia and New Zealand.” CJ E&M said. “The interesting settings and the ease with which the actors’ comic performances can be understood by an international audience have helped to make the film more appealing abroad. Given the popular property of such movies overseas, we are planning to release the film on a large scale.”
