Sony Pictures Developing Cindy Moon aka Silk Superhero Vehicle

A Korean-American superhero may be getting her own Marvel film. Reports suggest that Sony Pictures is in early development on a property based around Cindy Moon, a Spider-Man classmate who goes by the name Silk.

Moon is a recent character that first appeared in comics in the ‘The Amazing Spider-Man #1’ in 2014. She is a classmate of Peter Parker (aka Spider-Man) who also gains abilities after being bitten by a radioactive spider. The character was created by Dan Slott and Humberto Ramos.

The character has already appeared briefly in the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming and the recent smash Avengers: Infinity War, both times played by actress Tiffany Espensen. At this point, it is not clear who will play the role in a standalone film.

As Silk exists within the Spider-Man group of characters, the film is being developed by Amy Pascal at Sony Pictures. Sony struck a deal with Disney for shared cinematic universe space which began when the most recent incarnation of Spider-Man, played by Tom Holland, first appeared in the Captain America: Civil War in 2016. That deal extended to the Sony title Spider-Man: Homecoming and the Disney film Avengers: Infinity War.

Sony is preparing several other Marvel titles, including Venom starring Tom Hardy which is due out later this year.
