NA Hong-jin Tops Chunsa Film Art Awards

SON Ye-jin and HA Jung-woo Take Acting Prizes

The Chunsa Film Art Awards held their 22nd edition on May 24th, awarding the top achievers in the Korean film industry from 2016. Taking the show’s top prizes were NA Hong-jin (THE WAILING) for Best Director, SON Ye-jin (The Truth Beneath) for Best Actress and HA Jung-woo (Tunnel) for Best Actor.

Two films picked up multiple awards this year, with The Truth Beneath and writer/director LEE Kyoung-mi receiving the award for Best Screenplay in addition to the film's aforementioned Best Actress win. YEON Sang-ho’s TRAIN TO BUSAN picked up the Technical Award and the People’s Choice Most Popular Film Award.

PARK Jung-min of DONGJU; The Portrait of A Poet earned the Best Supporting Actor accolade while YOO In-young of MISBEHAVIOR came away with Best Supporting Actress. The Best New Actor award went to KOO Kyo-hwan of Beaten Black and Blue and Our Love Story’s LEE Sang-hee walked away with the Best New Actress prize. Meanwhile, KIM Jin-hwang took the Best New Director award for The Boys Who Cried Wolf.

Other prize winners included KIM In-kwon who earned the Popular Actor Award while young actors KIM Seul-ki and CHOI Woo-shik were awarded the Special Popularity Award. Finally, this year’s Lifetime Achievement Award went to legendary filmmaker KIM Soo-yong.
