Result from the Success of KONG: SKULL ISLAND

CJ CGV drew over the highest ticket sales in Vietnam in March. CJ CGV said that it “drew over 1.6 million moviegoers and USD 6.3 million in ticket sales in Vietnam in March.” In addition, the company said it “recorded the highest quarterly performance” of attracting four million viewers and posting USD 16 million in ticket sales from the growth of box office in March.

Kong: Skull Island has contributed to CJ CGV’s box office result in March, one of the Vietnam’s traditional slow seasons in theaters. CGV Vietnam signed a strategic contract with Warner Bros. for direct distribution and marketing of the film which was shot in Vietnam. CGV Vietnam led the film the biggest box office hit in the history of Vietnam as it held a huge film premiere to invite Vietnamese governors and celebrities and installed a 12-meter-tall King Kong statue to attract attentions. The company said that “Kong: Skull Island drew about 2 million audiences and made USD 7.2 million in ticket sales throughout Vietnam as of the end of March.”

“CGV Vietnam is the number one theater operator and distributor in Vietnam, which accounts for 50% of box office sales and 65% of distribution,” said KWAK Dong-won, managing director of CGV Vietnam. “This Kong: Skull Island case will go down in movie history as a good example of overcoming an off-peak season and greatly expanding the local film market by the synergy of distribution and screening.”
