Well Go USA Hears THE WAILING

Cannes-bound NA Hong-jin Thriller Books May 27 US Release

NA Hong-jin’s highly-anticipated thriller THE WAILING, which will debut in Out of Competition at the Cannes Film Festival on May 18th, has been picked up for North American distribution by Well Go USA. The distributor will release the film on May 27th in the United States.

Starring KWAK Do-won (The Attorney, 2013), HWANG Jung-min (Veteran, 2015), CHUN Woo-hee (HAN Gong-ju, 2014) and Japanese actor KUNIMURA Jun (Kill Bill Volume 1, 2003), THE WAILING follows a local cop who becomes helpless in the face of a string of grisly and mysterious deaths in a town in the Korean countryside. Suspicion falls on a recently arrived stranger while the cop engages the services of a shaman when his daughter falls ill with the same affliction that has already turned others violent in the region.

“We’re delighted to partner with Fox on director NA’s newest vision,” said Doris Pfardrescher, president and CEO of Well Go USA Entertainment. “It’s a visceral, gripping and shocking film that will stun and thrill both fans of his previous works as well as newcomers to the genre.” Long a supporter of Korean films, the most recent Korean pickups by Well Go USA include last year’s The Beauty Inside, Memories of the Sword, Northern Limit Line and Assassination.

THE WAILING is the fourth Korean production by Fox International Productions (FIP), which is releasing the film in Korea on May 12th, ahead of its Cannes premiere. Both of NA’s previous films, The Chaser (2008) and The Yellow Sea (2010), which was part-financed by 20th Century Fox, had their international debuts at the Cannes Film Festival.
