RIGHT NOW, WRONG THEN Heads to New York

The New York Film Festival (NYFF) has invited HONG Sang-soo’s Right Now, Wrong Then to its upcoming 53rd edition as part of its 26-film main slate. This marks the eighth time that the auteur has had a film invited to NYFF.

Right Now, Wrong Then, HONG’s 17th feature, recently premiered at the Locarno International Film Festival, where it became the second Korean film to pick up the event’s top prize, the Golden Leopard. Star JUNG Jae-young was also awarded the Best Actor prize at the Swiss fest.

JUNG plays a filmmaker who visits the town of Suwon for a screening of his film, while there he meets a local artist played by KIM Min-hee. Right Now, Wrong Then, much like HONG’s earlier film Virgin Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors (2000), depicts two versions of their encounter. The film also stars KO Asung, YU Jun-sang and YOUN Yuh-jung.

Previous HONG films to screen at NYFF include Turning Gate (2002), Tale of Cinema (2005), Woman on The Beach (2006), Night And Day (2008), Oki’s Movie (2010), Nobody’s Daughter Haewon (2013) and Hill of Freedom last year. Before New York, HONG’s latest will also screen at the Toronto International Film Festival as part of its ‘Masters’ program, marking his ninth invitation to TIFF.

NYFF will unspool over September 25th to October 11th.
