Korean Sales Companies Busy on the Croisette

Korean foreign sales outfits are out in force at the Marché du Film, taking place alongside the ongoing Cannes Film Festival. Among them, 9ers Entertainment, which is handling Cannes midnight selection Office, has picked up rights to a pair of new titles, and M-Line Distribution scored a raft of sales on their upcoming high concept comedy Wonderful Nightmare.

In addition to Office, 9ers picked in international rights to KIM Sang-jin’s new comedy Three Summer Night, featuring three men, played by KIM Dong-wook, LIM Won-hee and SON Ho-jun, on a rambunctious weekend getaway to Busan, and KIM Whi’s upcoming supernatural horror The Chosen: Forbidden Cave, featuring KIM Sung-kyun as a psychologist investigating a mother (YOO Sun) and daughter who appear to be possessed.

Armed with the star wattage of UHM Jeong-hwa and SONG Seung-heon, M-Line’s Wonderful Nightmare (known as Miss Wife in Korea) secured sales to markets such as Australia (Cine Asia), The Philippines (Viva Communications) and Myanmar (Mega Movie Technology), while Emphasis bought inflight rights. The film, which tells of a successful lawyer who dies and comes back as a housewife, will bow domestically in July. Also on M-Line’s slate are IM Sang-soo’s Fox International Productions title Intimate Enemies with RYOO Seung-bum, the action comedy Untouchable Lawmen, featuring IM Chang-jung and Daniel CHOI, and the medical horror The Black Hand.
