Project K to Screen 22 Korean Films

A Korean film festival showcasing 22 films including CHOI Dong-hoon’s The Thieves will be held in Frankfurt, Germany. The event, named ‘Project-K’ and organized by the Frankfurt Consulate General, Korean studies students at the Goethe University Frankfurt am Main, and the organization KGN run by second generation Korean-Germans, is scheduled to be held from October 17th-20th at the Bockenheim University’s campus.

Celebrating its second edition, this year’s festival will present a total of 22 films from the internationally award-winning latest titles to independent films, shorts and animation. The Thieves, which was released and attracted an impressive number of 12.98 million admissions in the domestic box office last year, will open the festival while the 2012 Seoul Independent Film Festival’s winners of Grand Prize, LEE Jeong-hong’s short film The Girl Lives in Haeundae, and of Best Film Prize, HONG Jae-hee’s feature documentary My Father’s E-mails, will be introduced as well.

Various events such as an academic conference dealing with the subject of Korean film history and Korean-German relationships, a K-Pop contest in Germany, a Taekwondo exhibition game presented by a team of Koreans and Germans, and promotional programs on Korea presented by the Korea Tourism Organization will also be offered. Other events include Korean karaoke (norehbang) singing competitions, a Korean traditional costume ‘Hanbok’ wearing event, a K-Pop party, Korean traditional food and tea tasting tables.

The Frankfurt Consulate General commented that “The first edition of the festival held last year was a success as it attracted considerable attention from the younger crowd here in Germany" also adding that "for this year’s festival, we are hoping to expand the spectrum of Korean films here in Germany as well as make this a place to actively share Korean culture.”
