A colorful showcase of Korean films opens in the UK with the London Korean Film Festival.

The Korean Cultural Centre UK held the opening ceremony of the 20th London Korean Film Festival on the 5th (local time) at the British Film Institute (BFI) Southbank Main Theatre.

Over the next two weeks, until the 18th, a total of 13 Korean films will be screened at BFI Southbank, ICA, and Ciné Lumière.

The opening film, ‘Frosted Window’ (directed by Kim Jong-kwan), an omnibus set in the Seochon neighborhood of Seoul, had its world premiere at the festival and sold out all 450 seats.

In the ‘Cinema Now’ section, which highlights recent Korean works, films such as ‘Commission’ (directed by Shin Jae-min), ‘The Informant’ (Kim Seok), and ‘The Gulls of Morning Sea’ (Park Yi-woong) are featured.

The ‘Women’s Cinema’ section includes ‘Red Nails’ (Hwang Seul-gi), ‘Savior of Life’ (Bang Mi-ri), and ‘The Meryl Streep Project’ (Park Hyo-sun), while ‘Special Screenings’ presents ‘HiFive’ by director Kang Hyoung-chul.

A special program marking the 80th anniversary of Korea’s Liberation, co-hosted with the Korean Film Archive, features ‘Hero’ (Yoon Je-kyun), ‘The Good, the Bad, the Weird’ (Kim Jee-woon), and ‘Break the Chain’ (Lee Man-hee).

The closing film of the festival will be ‘Harbin’, directed by Woo Min-ho.
