Choi Minjae (Choi Wooshik) is a young and principal police office who accepts a risky mission in return for some secret information regarding his late father. He agrees to monitor Park Gangyoon (Cho Jinwoong), the chief of a detective team that handles violent crimes. Gangyoon’s team’s arrest record is unrivalled, but he isn’t above breaking the law to get his collars. In order to investigate Gangyoon for corruption, Minjae must join his team as a new recruit.
Based on the Japanese novel of the same name by author Jō Sasaki, which was previously made as a Japanese TV show in 2009, The Policeman’s Lineage is the second feature film by director Lee Kyuman. Director Lee previously made the crime thriller Wide Awake (2007) and the crime drama Children… (2011).
A Hard Day (2014) and Believer (2018) star Cho takes the lead in this first Korean wide realest of 2022 and plays opposite Choi Wooshik, who was last seen in Bong Joonho’s Parasite (2019) and Time to Hunt (2020) and is currently on screens in the drama Beloved Summer. Meanwhile, veteran character actor Park Heesoon, who rounds out the main cast, was busy on the small screen last year, appearing in the Netflix drama My Name and Kim Jeewoon’s Apple TV+ series Dr. Brain.
