In a rural village in 1964 Korea, a nine-year old boy loves mandarin oranges so much, he is referred to as a “mandarin ghost.” One day, his father brings home a new wife (having thrown his first wife out of the house years earlier). Missing his real mother, the boy takes a deep disliking to his father’s new bride. Eventually the step-mother sacrifices herself to her new son.
