With this decision, railway workers began a struggle in February 2000 to end the 53-year-long reign of the yellow union. They organized a struggle to defy both the Korean National Railroad and the yellow union in order to build a pro-worker "democratic (autonomous) union (minju nojo)" that could carry out struggle to stop the impending onslaught of privatization.
