KIM thanks to half a million viewers of Pieta, which will finish being screened as of October 3rd
KIM Ki-duk expressed gratitude to the audiences when the accumulation of viewers exceeded half a million on September 24th. Then he said he wants to have his film screened until October 3rd so that other small films can have chances to be screened. In the ‘letter of gratitude to those who have watched
Pieta’ he sent to the publication agency, he said, “The number of viewers of my humble film
Pieta has exceeded half a million during the weekend. Half a thousand is worth 5 million to me.”
He also mentioned further screening schedule of Pieta saying, “As the one who spoke out about screen monopoly, I talk with the distributor to discuss the screening schedule of Pieta, released on September 6th. We decided to completely finish screening it as of October 3rd, which is the end of 4 weeks (28 dyas)”
And he continued, “I truly hope small films can get more chanced of screening instead of mine.” Earlier at the conference for winning the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival, he pointed the issue by saying, “Still, only a few films exclusively possess the quota at multiplexes, which makes small films made by contemporary filmmakers lose the least chances to be screened and disappear unnoticed.”
He added, “Even now, there are filmmakers who narrowly make films wishing they could be screened at least in one theater. I hope they can get more chances.”
