  • “Hope for Peace”

  • 2012 Gwangju International Film Festival Opens Nov. 8
     
     
    The 2012 Gwangju International Film Festival will open with the theme ‘Hope for Peace’ from Nov. 8-12 at Megabox in Gwangju. The city, with its image of liberty, peace and humanity, has been trying to contribute to the media business by introducing important cultural and media contents. The festival, which is being held for the 12th time, will feature 55 long and short films from 14 different countries.
     
    In the Humanity Vision section, the Chinese film Song of Tibet, which has been banned by Chinese censors, and A Girl from Hunan will be screened. Director JUNG Ji-young’s Unbowed will also screen in this section.
     
    In the Special Selection, the North Korea-China co-production Meet in Pyongyang is going to be screened. This film is the first ever produced between North Korea and China. China provided the budget while North Korea took care of actors, locations and the safety of the Chinese staff. It has attracted the attention of Chinese viewers for featuring hundreds of thousands of extras.
     
    Focus will also be on the KIM Dae-jung Nobel Peace Film Award. This award is reserved for the films or directors that have made a contribution to peace, liberty and humanity for mankind and LEE Hee-ho, the former first lady, will be the presenter of this award, the ceremony of which takes place on Nov. 11.
     
    Furthermore, there are numerous programs at the film festival including World vision where you can take in world cinema. as well as Family Cinema, Animation Special sections, Visions of Gwangju, Gwangju Independent Film Special and Documentary Special.
