  • Young Star LEE Re Recognized for Best Supporting Actress

Child star LEE Re has been awarded the Best Supporting Actress prize during the Tiantan Award ceremony held at the close of the 4th Beijing International Film Festival, which took place from April 16th to 23rd. LEE earned the prize for her memorable part as the abused daughter of SEOL Kyung-gu and UHM Ji-won in LEE Joon-ik’s comeback film Hope.

Early on in Hope, a young girl is taken on her way to school and suffers at the hands of a sexual deviant. During the difficult recuperation process, her family does its best to rebuild in the uncertain aftermath.

Director LEE, the hitmaker behind King and the Clown (2005), returned with Hope last fall, following a brief three-year retirement from filmmaking. The film performed well in theaters, generating over 2.7 million admissions.

Hope marked LEE Re’s silver screen debut, though the young actress has previously appeared in the TV shows Here Comes Oh Ja-ryong (2012) and The Chaser.

The top prize in Beijing was taken by the Canadian-Indian film Siddarth, while WONG Kar-wai’s The Grandmaster earned a total of three awards during the evening, for Best Director, Actress and Cinematography.
