There will be a lot going on at the New York Asian Film Festival this summer, particularly for fans of Korean cinema, as 17 works from the country are featured on this year’s program. Among the Korean film talent making their way across the Pacific will be young star KIM Ko-eun, who will be honored with NYAFF’s Star Asia Rising Star Award 2013.
Here award comes as a result of her stellar performance in her debut film Eungyo. Directed by JUNG Ji-woo, who will also be in attendance, Eungyo follows an ageing poet’s (PARK Hae-il) growing infatuation with a beguiling teenager (KIM Ko-eun) who lives next door and does a few household chores for him. The poet’s protégé, a young writer who recently found success, grows jealous of the waif as she unknowingly steals the mentor’s attention, before falling under her charm himself.Meanwhile Showbox’s thriller Confession of Murder, staring JUNG Jae-young and PARK Si-hoo, will also be screening as part of special showcase of Well Go USA, a major North American distributor of Asian cinema. Well Go will also be releasing recent gangster hit New World on DVD/Blu-ray in North America on July 23rd. NYAFF 2013 will hold unfold from June 28th to July 15th.
