  • Archaeology of Love, Competing at the 33rd Singapore International Film Festival
  • by Park Hyejin /  Nov 14, 2022

  •

Archaeology of Love (dir. Lee Wanmin) has been invited to the Competition at the Singapore International Film Festival. The film shows the contradiction and overcoming of close relationships through the story of Youngsil, an archaeological researcher, and her lover she met by chance 8 years ago and the process of finding new love.

The film was directed by Lee Wanmin, who won the 2016 Busan International Film Festival's Citizen Critic Award for her first feature film, Jamsil, and won the Best Actor Prize in the Korean Competition at the 23rd Jeonju International Film Festival. Actor Ok Jayeon, the main character, played the role of Yeongsil, who becomes a couple with Inseek 8 hours after they met, in Archeology of Love. Ok Jayeon was praised for delicately expressing the inner side of Yeongsil, who is being gaslighted constantly in a relationship with her lover.

Actor Ok Jayeon said, "I am very happy and honored that our film can meet overseas audiences. Youngsil is an unusual character since she is free of conventions but has a frustrating sense of responsibility for her promises. I'm curious and looking forward to what kind of empathy Youngsil will receive in Singapore during the 8 years of her time with Inseek and the things she experiences.”

The Singapore International Film Festival is Singapore's oldest international film festival founded in 1987. As one of Southeast Asia's largest film festivals, it was the first to introduce a competitive section exclusively for Asian films. The 33rd Singapore International Film Festival will be held from November 24 to December 4.
