  • Asian Film Academy Announced 2014 Faculty
  • by Pierce Conran /  May 15, 2014
  • BIFF Education Program to Feature Béla Tarr, SONG Il-gon

The Asian Film Academy, a component of the Busan International Film Festival, has announced its faculty for its upcoming 2014 session, which will mark its 10th anniversary. This year’s AFA dean will be the Hungarian filmmaker Béla Tarr, who visited Busan last year as the head of BIFF’s New Currents jury. Joining him will be Korean filmmaker SONG Il-gon (Spider Forest, 2004) and Polish cinematographer Ryszard Lenczewski, while Busan Film Commission Director Oh Seok-geun will once resume his role as Deputy Dean, a post he has occupied since 2011.

AFA has previously invited such noted filmmakers as Kurosawa Kiyoshi, Hou Hsiao Hsien, Im Kwon-taek, Mohsen Makhmalbaf, Abbas Kiarostami, Jia Zhangke, Krzysztof Zanussi and Lee Changdong to serve as Deans.

The AFA is an educational program that seeks to impart practical and philosophical knowledge of filmmaking through a variety of workshops, master classes and lectures, while also engaging in short film production. For its 10th edition, AFA is teaming up with the New York Film Academy and Full Sail University for various special events. This year’s AFA will be conducted from September 25th to October 12th, coinciding with the end of the 19th Busan International Film Festival.
