  • Korean Cinema showcased at MoMA

The Museum of Modern Art(MoMA), a world-renowned establishment for modern art, will screen 12 Korean films. The title of the event is ‘Yeonghwa: Korean Film Today’ and it will begin on the 19th September until the 30th at the Roy and Niuta Titus Theater 1 and 2. The event’s sponsor, Hyundai Card, says the showcase is organized by MoMA and the Korea Society with the aim of letting New Yorkers know more about the rising status and quality of Korean cinema. What's interesting is that the title features the Korean word for ‘film’, ‘Yeonghwa’.

The late maestro of Korean cinema, SHIN Sang-ok’s Mayumi: Virgin Terrorist and Mother and a Guest will be screened along with more modern works such as HONG Sang-soo’s In Another Country, BYUN Young-joo’s Helpless, AHN Sang-hoon’s Blind, JUHN Jai-hong’s Poongsan, JEON Kyu-hwan’s From Seoul to Varanasi will be shown at MoMA. Films that received great responses at international festivals such as LEE Sang-woo's Fire in Hell, KIM Kyung-mook’s Stateless Things, PARK Hong-min’s A Fish as well as indie films such as Jesus Hospital and Mirage will also be showcased.
