  • Korean Academy of Film Arts on Show at Top Short Film Fest

The internationally renowned Clermont-Ferrand Short Film Festival will for the first time stage a retrospective on the works of a Korean film school. A section dedicated to the works of the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA) will examine both the past and present of Korean filmmaking.

The section will be broken down into two sections: "Old Boys" (OB) and "Young Boys" (YB). The “Old Boys” segment will focus on works by past graduates of KAFA who went on to become major names in the Korean film industry. Featuring in the program will be BONG Joon-ho’s Incoherence (1994), JANG Joon-hwan’s 2001 Imagine (1994), KIM Eui-suk’s Chang-soo Gets the Job (1984) and Homo Videocus (1991) by E J-yong and BYUN Daniel H., who also serves as a jury member of this year’s International Competition.

Meanwhile, current or recently graduated students are featured in the “Young Boys” section. Invited films include LEE Hyun-ju’s Ordinary Family (2014), LEE Young-ah’s Boiler (2015), KWON Man-ki’s Telepata (2015), KIM Ji-hyeon’s animation Throttled (2016) and LEE Sang-hak’s SQUID (2016). LEE Hyun-ju recently made her feature debut Our Love Story (2016).

Encompassing a span of 30 years, the KAFA films run throughout the modern history of the Korean film industry. This year’s 39th edition of the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival kicked off on February 3rd and will run until the 11th.
