Before beginning his acting career MA Dong-seok was known as Don LEE. Born in 1971 Korea, LEE immigrated with his family to USA when he was a high school student. After his graduation from Columbia State University, he worked as physical trainer for Mixed Martial Arts fighters. He got his start in movies comparatively late but following his role in 2005’s <Heaven’s Soldiers>, he has been heavily active on the screen. He has taken on many supporting roles in genre fare such as <The Good, the Bad and the Weird> (2008), <Insadong Scandal> (2009) and <Midnight FM> (2010) before landing a meatier part in the hit RYOO Seung-wan thriller <The Unjust> (2010). In 2011, he appeared in more varied works such as <Quick>, <Pain> and <Perfect Game>. 2012 however was his breakout year as he took on big parts as gruff and often lovable characters in a wide range of hits including <Nameless Gangster>, <Neighbours>, and <Love 911>. He also appeared in the Busan feature <Azooma>, which has since gone on a successful international festival run. He subsequently appeared in <The Flu>, <Marriage Blue> and <The Fives> before taking on the first of a series of leading roles with the courtroom drama <Norigae> in 2013. In 2014 he toplined <Murderer> and KIM Ki-duk’s new film <One on One>. In the commercial realm he also played comic supporting parts in the period films <Kundo: Age of the Rampant> and <The Royal Tailor>. The following year he was seen as a detective in the thriller <The Chronicles of the Evil>, while he also top-lined the island mystery-thriller <Exchange> with JO Han-sun. Next for him was YEON Sang-ho’s first live-action film, the zombie-on-a-train thriller <Busan Bound>.
