LOGLINE
Nato is a grumpy blue raccoon who lives within the demilitarized zone (DMZ). Fed up with life in the DMZ, he sets out on an adventure. However, life in the city and the zoo are not what he dreamt it to be. He plans a daring escape with other animals in the zoo. Will Nato make is safely back to the DMZ?
PRODUCTION INTENT
1. ‘Blue Raccoon Nato’ was planned to make the DMZ known
1) The DMZ is a symbol of war, but it is a place where nature is preserved. The idea is to draw attention to the DMZ through a story about the animals of the DMZ.
2) The project has educational value in introducing the animals in the DMZ.
2. Making the DMZ and history more accessible to children
1) By using the DMZ, a place not permitted to children, as the topic, children can let their imagination run wild. By utilizing various aspects of the DMZ, the lives and adventures of the animals can be conveyed.
2) Suitable for parents and children. The DMZ embodies the Korean War. It is part of Korean history, but may be too heavy for children. However, learning through the adventures of Nato and friends, such aspects can be bypassed. Blue Raccoon Nato could appeal to adults as a new medium for lesson in history.
The DMZ is a place that symbolizes a sadness, but the medium of animation can recreate it as a mysterious space that sets the stage for the adventures of “Blue Raccoon Nato.”
It is hoped thatthe film will show that the DMZ’s environment must be protected.

SYNOPSIS
Nature in the DMZ has been preserved beautifully. Hera, Blue Raccoon Nato, who dreams of adventure, lives. By chance, Nato sees images of animals living in zoos on a TV in a military outpost.
Nato is captivated by the images, and he is captured by a soldier. The soldiers wonder about his strange color, and although Nato initially feels nervous he soon becomes friends with a soldier and they watch the TV together. The soldier takes pity on Nato and releases him into the wild, and puts a dog collar on Nato. Nato and Pong then leave the DMZ and set out to find the zoo animals they saw on TV.
Their journey is a difficult one. They are hunted by cats Zzam and Lucy, but Thrill and Brain – who they met on the journey – help them reach the zoo. However, the zoo is not what they dreamt it to be, and Nato is captured by humans. Nato, however, once again finds freedom with the help of the soldier he met in the DMZ. But, he cannot leave the zoo animals behind, and devises a plan to take them with him back to the DMZ.
Nato manages to take the animals to the DMZ. The presence of a diverse range of animals in the DMZ is soon reported on by the media, but people decide to allow the animals to live in freedom, and Nato and his friends live happily ever after in the DMZ.
