A Marvel injection boosted overall business by some 20% as the market share flipped, with US titles taking 69% of sales while local films slowed to 23%. 2.5 million seats were filled during the frame.On the back of strong reviews, Thor: Ragnarok, the third Thor film and 17th Marvel title, scored a strong 1.58 million entry (USD 11.89 million) debut, with 2.22 million spectators (USD 15.73 million) recorded over its first five days. That’s already 30% more than the first installment and it won’t take long for it to catch up with 2013’s Thor: Dark World, which recorded just over 3 million viewers.Down a reasonable 40% in its fourth week, local sleeper hit THE OUTLAWS found another 476,000 viewers (USD 3.59 million) as its total rose to 5.84 million admissions (USD 42.62 million). The crime thriller is now the fifth highest grossing Korean film of the year, behind The Battleship Island.Japanese romance Let Me Eat Your Pancreas, which was well received by viewers at the Busan International Film Festival earlier this month, debuted in third with 135,000 tickets (USD 1.01 million) sold over the weekend and 199,000 admissions (USD 1.38 million) recorded since Wednesday.After a slow start, Hollywood disaster film Geostorm crashed over 80% in its sophomore weekend, adding just 113,000 viewers (USD 809,000) to lift its total to a subdued 971,000 sales (USD 7.17 million).Faring even worse in its second spin on the charts was local period drama Man of Will, which tumbled 86% for a sparse 28,000 ticket (USD 182,000) frame and a new total of 358,000 admissions (USD 2.42 million).This coming weekend may see a three-way battle occur for the top spot as Thor gears up for round two against local newcomers The Bros, a family comedy with THE OUTLAWS star Don LEE (aka MA Dong-seok), and Heart Blackened with CHOI Min-shik, a remake of the Chinese thriller Silent Witness (2013).
