  • Top 3 Films Unchanged at Korean Box Office

With no major new releases, the top three spots at the Korean box office remained unchanged. As holdovers slowed, so too did business overall, with 1.8 million tickets sold, 62% of which for Hollywood titles.

Slowing 38% after its gargantuan start, Marvel’s Doctor Strange remained the top draw over the weekend, adding another 1 million spectators (USD 8.15 million) to bring its haul to 3.97 million viewers (USD 30.44 million).

Down about the same amount was local action-comedy LUCK-KEY, as it amassed another 451,000 admissions (USD 3.35 million) in its fourth frame, bringing its total to a sizeable 6.38 million entries (USD 45.32 million).

Suffering a steeper 61% dive was local horror HIDE-AND-NEVER SEEK. In its second weekend the film brought in 48,000 viewers (USD 348,000), giving a 273,000 ticket (USD 1.88 million) running total.

US sleeper western hit Hell or High Water was the highest new entry, mustering up a tepid 38,000 viewers (USD 275,000) in its first weekend. The film has brought in 48,000 viewers (USD 341,000) over four days.

Rounding out the top five was a new Power Rangers film from Japan, with 38,000 admissions (USD 262,000) and 41,000 entries (USD 282,000) since its Thursday bow.

Thai film The Teacher’s Diary was the top play in limited release, finding 31,000 spectators (USD 180,000) over the weekend in seventh place and 51,000 admissions (USD 303,000) overall.

Looking to unseat Doctor Strange at the box office this coming weekend will be local bowling drama Split, featuring LEE Jung-hyun and YOO Ji-tae.
