- The Roundup Topped the Box Office for 3 Consecutive Weeks, the First 10 million-viewer Film in 2022?

Jurassic World: DominionThe Roundup topped the box office for 3 consecutive weeks, accelerating the birth of a ‘10 million-viewer movie.’ According to the Korean Box Office Information System (KOBIS) of the Korean Film Council (KOFIC) on June 6 (Monday), The Roundup recorded 1,238,540 viewers from June 3 to 5. As a result, the total number of audiences of the film exceeded 9 million. This record surpassed that of Jurassic World: Dominion, which was released on June 1st (Wed) and drew 760,000 viewers on the day of its release, setting the highest opening record in 2022. In addition, the total number of audiences of The Roundup easily exceeded Spider-Man: No Way Home with 7.55 million viewers, the biggest hit since the Pandemic.
The Roundup has broken the box office record every single day since its release, surpassing 9 million viewers within 20 days of its release. This is 5 days earlier than PARASITE, the last ‘10 million-viewer movie’ in 2019, which surpassed 9 million viewers in 25 days of its release. A lot of people expect that The Roundup will be the first ’10 million-viewer movie’ during the Pandemic era.
Jurassic World: Dominion is 2nd place at the box office. With the number of 949,394 moviegoers from June 3rd to 5th, its total number of audiences reached 1.82 million. Jurassic World: Dominion, which depicts the final struggle between humans and dinosaurs out in the world, is the finale of the Jurassic Park series, which began in 1993.
3rd place is the Japanese animation Pokemon the Movie: Giratina and the Sky Warrior, which was released on June 1, recording 140,277 viewers. The number of audiences of the film in total is 310,214. The Korean documentary film, The Red Herring, is in 4th place, fighting well at the box office, adding 39,601 viewers over the weekend, and surpassing 270,000 audiences in total. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness secured 5th place. The number of its weekend audience is 27,647, recording 5,845,803 audiences in total.
Next week, the theater district will enjoy a battle between Broker, the Best Actor award-winning film at the 75th Festival de Cannes, and The Roundup. As of June 6th (Monday), with the 35.5% of sales rate, Broker is ahead of The Roundup (22.8%). The theater district is expected to liven up in June with the release of a series of great films moviegoers are anticipating.
