  • ALIVE Takes Home a Trophy from Italy

PARK Jung-bum’s Alive which has been travelling around the world to various international film festivals has added another trophy to its shelf. It received the Jury Award at the 13th Florence Korea Film Festival, which was held from March 20th until 30th, the awards took place on the 29th.

After receiving much praise for his debut The Journals of Musan (2011), PARK made Alive through the Jeonju Digital Project (which is now called the Jeonju Cinema Project) as a part of the Jeonju International Film Festival. The film then went onto various international film festivals, notably Toronto, Busan, Locarno, Singapore and Vancouver. At the 25th Singapore International Film Festival, PARK earned a Special Mention, while he also received the Youth Jury Award from Locarno and the Best Actor and Obra Cine Award from Mar Del Plata. Unfortunately PARK was unable to attend the festival in person, but shared his thanks through a video message.

At the festival, 24 features and 11 shorts from Korea were introduced, including festival favorites such as A Girl at My Door and Hill of Freedom and commercial hits like Roaring Currents.

Alive is about the hardships a man faces as he works at a soybean paste factory to support his mentally ill sister and her young daughter with the backdrop of the snow covered Gangwon province.
