At the 16thBusan International Film Festival (BIFF) and the 6th Asian Film Market, fund managers presented a variety of options for filmmakers at the Korea Contents Fund Showcase yesterday.
BIFF Festival Director LEE Yong Kwan opened the event with a message of welcome and thanks. “It’s a wonderful thing to have these leading investment funds presenting here at the Busan International Film Festival today. It is one of our goals to support filmmakers to find financing and distribution means, in addition to screening their films in our festival.”
Presenters from companies such as CJ Venture Investment, Isu, M Venture, and Sovik explained their most recent respective initiatives to a packed event hall of market participants.
Sovik Venture Capital Investment is starting a KW100 billion global contents fund in Nov. 2011 that will run until Nov. 2018. The fund aims to invest in Korean films, animation, TV series, pop music and games that can launch into the overseas markets and/or co-productions between Korean and “excellent” overseas companies.
CJ Venture Investment is this month just starting a KW20 billion fund that aims to invest in films and performances such as musicals. The fund will run until Oct. 2018.
Isu Venture Capital is also starting a KW10 billion fund that targets middle and low-budget Korean films and this fund will run until Oct. 2016.
M Venture Investment has been running a KW10 billion fund for films and performances since last year that will run until Oct. 2016.
Capital One has created a KW12 billion fund for middle and low-budget films that has been operated since June 2011 and will run until June 2016.
The content fund presentation session ended with a Q&A followed by one-on-one meetings between fund managers and producers.
