TV Plus Expansion Deal Brokered during MIPTV in Cannes
South Korea’s tech giant Samsung Electronics has signed a deal with the European SVOD platform RakutenWuaki in order to launch their TV Plus service across the European continent. The partnership was brokered by LEE Hee-man, VP of connected TV services at Samsung Electronics, and RakutenWuaki CEO Jacinto Roca during the MIPTV market in Cannes earlier this month.
TV Plus allows owners of Samsung QLED smart series TVs to access VOD channels with 4K HDR content such as films and television shows. Already available in Germany since January, through an earlier partnership with RakutenWuaki, Samsung’s TV Plus is now being offered to customers in the UK, France, Italy and Spain as well.
“Through TV Plus, RakutenWuaki and Samsung have been able to come together to offer consumers a wide variety of content options from an assortment of different genres and interests, a complete offer for everyone in the family,” said Jacinto Roca, RakutenWuaki CEO.
Favored by studios in Hollywood and online video portal Youtube, 4K High Dynamic Range is gearing up to become the broadcast standard with a format that delivers a higher picture definition but also better pictorial realism in areas such as skin tones and a broader color palette, in order for better visual fidelity in darker and brighter scenes.
RakutenWuaki’s catalog features new releases from Hollywood studios such Warner, Disney, Sony and Fox, and content from HBO and several major European distributors, allowing its customers to access a range of content on devices of their choosing.
