  • CHOI Min-shik and REVIVRE Triumph at 51st Paeksang Arts Awards

    Yesterday evening (May 26th), the Paeksang Arts Awards held their 51st edition at Kyung Hee University's Peace Palace Hall in Seoul. On the back of his dominant performance as Admiral YI Sun-shin in last year’s all-time chart-topper Roaring Currents, CHOI Min-shik was awarded the event’s Grand Prize.
     
    Three films picked up multiples awards, including IM Kwon-taek acclaimed 102nd work Revivre. The drama was crowned Best Film and also picked up the Best Supporting Actress prize for KIM Ho-jung. Earning the most recognition, after bagging three trophies, was the pitch-black action-comedy A Hard Day. The 2014 Cannes selectee earned the Best Director prize for KIM Seong-hun, while its actors LEE Sun-kyun and CHO Jin-woong were both awarded for Best Actor. BOO Ji-young’s social drama Cart took home awards for Best Actress (YUM Jung-ah) and Best Screenplay (by KIM Kyung-chan).
     
    Rounding out the main acting awards was YOO Hae-jin, who won the Best Suporting Actor accolade for his role in swashbuckler The Pirates. Among newcomer nominees, JYJ member PARK Yoo-chun took home Best New Actor for SHIM Sung-bo maritime thriller Haemoo, July JUNG was deemed Best New Director for her Cannes-invited A Girl at My Door and CHUN Woo-hee added to yet another trophy to her chest with a Best New Actress win for her breakout role in Han Gong-ju.
     
    Meanwhile, the Male Popularity Award went to K-Drama idol LEE Min-ho for JANG Jin’s gangland saga Gangnam Blues and the Female Popularity Award was scooped up by The Royal Tailor’s PARK Shin-hye.
