Chinese Auteur to Mentor BIFF Education Program

The Asian Film Academy, a film education workshop affiliated with the Busan International Film Festival, revealed on Monday that Chinese auteur WANG Xiaoshuai will lead the program which is set to stage its 11th edition later this year.

The event will take place over September 24th to October 11th, in conjunction with the 20th edition of BIFF, which is scheduled for October 1-10.

The acclaimed filmmaker WANG is most well known for his piercing social critiques, including Beijing Bicycle (2001), Chongqing Blues (2010) and last year’s Red Amnesia. His films have screened widely at top international film festivals, with the former earning him the Silver Bear from the Berlin International Film Festival.

Also taking part on the faculty for this year’s Asian Film Academy will be Singaporean filmmaker Anthony CHEN, who rocketed to prominence with his universally praised feature Ilo Ilo, the Camera d’Or recipient at Cannes in 2013, and Busan Film Commission head OH Seok-geun, who will supervise the whole program, just as he did last year.

Previous editions have been led globally-recognized auteurs such as Bela Tarr, IM Kwon-taek and JIA Zhang-ke. Aspiring filmmakers can apply to take part in the program until April 30, but visiting the AFA homepage (afa.biff.kr).
