  • CHOI Yong-bae Named Film Professional of the Year
  • by Pierce Conran /  Jan 23, 2013
  • 26 YEARS Producer Awarded by Korean Film Reporters Association

The producer of the highly controversial and very successful 26 Years, CHOI Yong-bae, has been chosen by the Korean Film Reporters Association (KOFRA) as this year’s recipient of the Film Professional of the Year accolade.

CHOI, the head of domestic production company Cheongeorahm Film, received the award as a result of his work on 26 Years, a production that underwent a labored and contentious development due to its extremely sensitive subject matter regarding the infamous Gwangju massacre of 1980. CHOI saved the film with a massive online crowd-sourcing campaign that attracted in excess of 15,000 donors. The film was ultimately an enormous box office triumph as it brought in close to three million viewers.

The next project for the feted producer will be a sequel to the acclaimed blockbuster hit The Host. The film is aiming for a Summer 2014 release and will be directed by PARK Myung-cheon and written by YIM Pil-sung.
