  • `Tailor-Made` Role for SHIN Ae-ra
  • by Yi Ch'ang-ho (KOFIC) /  Sep 05, 2006
  • Actress SHIN Ae-ra debuts on the big-screen with the film Ice Bar. SHIN plays a single mother whose son, still a young boy, sells ice cream using an improvised ice cream parlor. The boy wishes to look for his father in Seoul and therefore tries to earn money for the trip. The boy is played by PARK Ji-bin. In Ice Bar SHIN is a caring mother who raises her child as well as she can and tries to protect him from a society which discriminates single mothers and their children. SHIN Ae-ra is often in the headlines for other reasons than acting. She and her celebrity actor husband CHA In-pyo (Hanbando) are known for their philanthropy, usually for the well-being of children. In real life they tackled another social issue when the couple adopted a child. Korean babies are usually adopted abroad, also because of the prominence of bloodlines in Korean society. The media saw the couple's decision as a positive influence in favor of domestic adoption. SHIN is best known for her role in the 2005 television drama Bad Housewife. Child actor PARK Ji-bin played in last year's Little Brother. After directing short films, director YEO In-kwang makes his feature film debut with Ice Bar. Yi Ch'ang-ho (KOFIC)
